Terms of use & disclaimer

These terms describe the rules for using ChessAthletes, its chess-training tools, login/accounts, and the subscription system. This is a legal agreement between you and the person operating ChessAthletes.

1. Who we are

ChessAthletes is an independent project operated by a single developer based in Sweden. When we say “we” or “us”, we refer to that person. When we say “you”, we mean anyone who visits the website or uses the trainers.

2. What ChessAthletes is (and is not)

ChessAthletes provides browser-based chess training tools and educational material (trainers, drills, memory tools, and related content) for practice, learning, and personal improvement.

ChessAthletes does not provide:

You are responsible for how you use the tools and for any decisions or outcomes related to training or gameplay.

3. Accounts & login

ChessAthletes may offer optional login (for example via email magic links or Google sign-in) using a third-party authentication provider (currently Supabase).

By creating an account or using account-based features, you agree that ChessAthletes may send service-related communications necessary to operate the service. These may include account notifications, security messages, subscription or billing confirmations, and notices about included usage or availability.

ChessAthletes does not send marketing or promotional emails unless you have explicitly opted in.

4. No warranty

ChessAthletes is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that:

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

5. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of ChessAthletes. This includes, but is not limited to:

Your sole remedy if you are unhappy with ChessAthletes is to stop using it and, if applicable, cancel your subscription.

6. Fair use, limits & acceptable behaviour

To keep ChessAthletes stable and prevent abuse, usage limits may apply for free users. These limits may apply in normal browsing and private/incognito mode.

To enforce fair access and prevent abuse, the system may temporarily store/process:

This information is used only to maintain fair access and expires automatically where possible. It is not used for advertising or tracking across other websites.

You agree not to:

Access may be temporarily restricted in cases of abuse or repeated limit-evasion attempts.

7. Free access

All trainers are free to use without subscriptions or monthly time limits. Account login remains available.

If you previously subscribed, use the billing management page to manage or cancel your existing subscription.

8. Intellectual property

The design, branding, and code of ChessAthletes are owned by the creator. You may not copy, resell, or host a competing service using cloned versions of ChessAthletes unless expressly permitted or released under an open-source licence.

You retain ownership of any content you input into the trainers. However, you grant us permission to process that content locally in your browser as required to provide the tool.

9. Third-party services

ChessAthletes relies on third-party providers such as:

Your use of these services is subject to their respective policies. We are not responsible for outages or errors caused by third-party providers.

10. Changes to the service
